State of the Bay

Chairman Dennis Durgan
Since our last newsletter, the Newport Harbor Foundation Board of Directors has been busy meeting monthly to discuss and follow up on many issues facing our wonderful harbor. In addition, Ron Salisbury hosted a wonderful thank you event for the many founders of NHF at his Cannery Restaurant back in November after the crazy election season! About 70 people attended this event and we had an update on the Ferry, Dredging, Water Wheel Trash Collection and Mooring Pricing. Ron hit it out of the park with his food and drink & we thank him again for his generosity!!! We would also like to thank Julie Ackman for all her expertise in helping organize this event!
Please enjoy reading about the CAD update, The Water Wheel Trash Collector launch and the success the harbor is seeing already with the passing of the 1st major storm of the season; In addition, read about the Mooring Fields update and Ferry Electrification; Next up would be the need for After Hours Harbor Department patrol later this year. The Board has been discussing the need for a small Hopper Barge to help with dredging needs @ smaller residences and commercial properties around the harbor not covered in the large main channel dredging project which is slated to start sometime late summer.
The most recent event that the NHF supported was the City of Newport Beach Coastal Development Permit 5-23-0753 to test a new double row mooring system in the “C” mooring field East of Bay Island. Stay tuned for results of the Vote @ the Coastal Commission meeting in early February…
Stay tuned for a save-the-date flyer announcing the date in mid-May for our third annual Luncheon on the State of the Bay, which will feature several live updates from our speakers…
I would like to personally thank our founders, donors, future donors, and Board of Directors for all their support in helping our young foundation grow to help support our wonderful harbor!
Happy Safe Boating,
Dennis Durgan
